Please be aware we are seeing Large Patch, which is caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani, pop up EVERYWHERE around Centerville, Warner Robins, Macon, Byron Perry and Kathleen. Pretty much all of Middle Georgia. It is a common disease of centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, although can be found in zoysiagrass, and bermudagrass. Centipedegrass and St. Augustinegrass are particularly susceptible to this disease and is more commonly seen in these turf types.
Symptoms of large patch appear in roughly circular patches from 2 feet up to 10 feet or more in diameter. The affected turf will initially be yellow, or reddish-brown in color but will then turn tan and collapse to the ground. The disease can spread rapidly to encompass large areas of turf, and distinct circular patches may not be obvious in these cases. Please call us if you see signs of this before your entire lawn is destroyed. The best preventative for this is just that, prevention! Please contact us so we can assist you in the prevention and correction of this disease on your property!
